Setting up Helio 6 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 40
Helio is a fairly straight forward template and is easy to setup.

1. Install the template either by the Joomla installer or via ftp.
2. Select Helio as your default template.

Basic setup.
For J1.0 users changes are made in the index.php file in the template folder. Change the variable relating to the background and the width.
For J1.5 these settings can be made in the Joomla template admin.

The Control Panel.
1. The control panel will only appear if you have a module published to the user 1 position.

The Superfish.
1. The superfish requires the extended menu module which can be found in the download area.
2. Install the module and publish to the user 3 position.
3. Edit the extended menu module parameters in the Joomla back end and use the following settings.
4. Set the module to published.
5. Choose user 3 as the module position.
6. Menu Name: Choose the menu you want to use.
7. Menu Style: Choose flat list.
8. Expand Men: Yes.
9. Enable Menu Template: Yes
10. Template name: superfish/menu.html

JB Jquery News Ticker.
1. Install this module via the Joomla installer.
2. Publish the module.
3. Assign it to the User2 Position.
4. Set your parameters in the module admin.

JB Jquery Slideshow.
1. Install the module via the Joomla installer.
2. Publish the module.
3. Publish to the position you require. The demo uses Advert1
4. Set your image names and attributes in the module admin.

Floating Modules:
When you publish modules to the user 5 position. The modules will automatically float:left next to eachother and fit nicely across the width of the template.

G'day Anthony.

I just downloaded the 1.5 version but it seems to be coming up with

'Direct Access to this location is not allowed.' on the page whenever I try to visit it with helio 1.5 as the default. Any ideas as to what may have caused this?

Cheers,

Jack

Edit: Also when I go to change the parameters of, say, the colour scheme; I am told that the params.ini file is unwritable.

Hi Jack,

I just did a test of the zip in the download area and set it up on a fresh 1.5 installation. Can you double check that you are using the 1.5 package and not the 1.0 version?

And also that a params.ini file is located in the template folder.

Cheers Anthony.

I downloaded the 1.5 template again just to be sure. I uninstalled the old one, uploaded the new one, and defaulted it. I'm not running in legacy mode and if I do it doesn't make a difference. It still says that the perams.ini is writable until i try to change something, then it changes to 'unwritable'.

I'm still getting the error message when i try to visit the page.

My site is at www.mydentistnq.com.au/index.php

cheers.

here is what it says above the drop down colour scheme menu:

"The Parameter-File /templates/jb_helio_j1.5/params.ini is Unwritable!"

Hi Jack,

Its all fixed now.

It was an issue with extended menu version 1.03 ... this is incompatible with J1.5. Ive just installed v1.05 which fixed it.

Also even though it says the params.ini is unwritable when you make changes in the backend it changes the .ini file.

Cheers Anthony.

Sorry, I have another question... probably a bit simpler.

I'm a bit baffled by the seemiingly straight forward instructions on setting up the sliding panel. It mentions publishing modules to the 'banner' position... but there is not 'banner' position as far as I can see!

Cheers,

Jack

Also, when replacing the Helio log0 with my own, is it possible to to make it the full width of the body rather than the partial width it's at now?

I don't intend on having the scrolling news bar.

cheers

Hi Jack,

looks like the banner position didnt make it into the xml file but it is in the template itself. So in J1.5 you can just type the name of the position you want to use.

Also if you want the logo image to stretch right across then just make the logo image the width of the template and it will all fit nicely.

Cheers Anthony.

Re:Setting up Helio 6 Months ago Karma: 0
Hey Anthony,

I think things are progressing nicely (although mostly it's been behind the scenes content entry) but I've hit another minor speed bump.

What we would like is a banner type thing up the top with large pretty images of people with nice teeth (surprise surprise!) and our logo inside the image. I'd love to use something like the JB Jquiery slideshow thing for that or something which will allow for the image to change with each page.

More the point though, we need the flash content/images/whatever to be a fair bit higher than the current logo height. I've tried putting my experimental flash banner with some extra height in a module and placed it at user1 but it just sat over the top of the menu rather than pushing it down. I then edited the 'helio' logo to be higher but it just sat it's excess UNDER the menu!... Basically I'm wondering how I can push the site further down, leaving more room for the header.

Are my questions expecting a bit too much changeability from Joomla? I'm not sure, this is my first one. Regardless, i'm pretty happy.

Cheers

Hi Jack,

You can adjust the height of the top area by changing the height attribute for the #top div in the template_css.css file. Currently its set to 112px so just adjust accordingly.

Joomla is as flexible as the template that you are using so if you are familiar with css you can pretty much do anything

Thanks Anthony

Thanks!

This css stuff is a breeze to edit... I was a bit scared to handle code but it's quite logical...

Cheers,

Jack
