Colour Schemer is a great website for helping you to choose new colour schemes and find colours in use at other websites. They also have a free utility call ColorPix which actually gives you the colour number of any pixel on the screen ... I use this tool alot.

This tutorial explains the process for changing the background colour of the editor when using your template. In cases where the background image or colour is the same as the colour of the font it is impossible to read the text you are writing in the content administrator.
